The Pursuit of Holy Leisure is finally HERE!
Reader,
It's hard to believe, but the day I thought would never come is finally here. Today, my first book, and the theme of my heart, is now available.
I must admit, it's a little overwhelming, and there's a lot unknown at this point. It's a similar feeling to driving away after dropping your kids off at college.
Your heart somehow detaches from your body, and you've got to let go. You've done your job, and now it's up to your son or daughter to live out what you've instilled (Lord willing).
In the same way, I trust that what I've poured into these pages will likewise bear fruit. The Lord was with me through every sentence, and as I look back, I'm simply overwhelmed that he allowed me to do this work. It's truly a testimony of his grace.
Today, I've written about what prompted me to write this book and how the pursuit of holy leisure forever changed my life and approach to God's Word.
If this resonates with you, I pray you'll join me and pursue holy leisure. I'd love to know how this book impacts you!
I was offered an advanced reader copy of The Pursuit of Holy Leisure, and I had no idea how God would use this little book to shake me and lovingly scream at me, "No, daughter. You're doing this all wrong. I have more for you. I just want you to rest." I started reading this book while on the treadmill (effective & efficient, right?), but found myself coming to tears with each chapter I read. To put it simply, this book has rewired my brain to look at time with God as a leisurely activity I can delight in, as one would coffee with a dear friend, not as something I need to do to keep God's love. - Holly
Have you ever been so thirsty you didn’t realize how much you needed water until you started drinking? That is how I feel about Cara’s book. It is like living water for your dry and parched soul. She invites you to sit with Jesus in the “cool of the day” and enjoy His presence. This is a training manual for learning how to be still, to rest, and abide in Him. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. I will be reading this many times over. - Keri
If you've ever struggled with seeing your time with God as another box to check, you need to read this book. Cara does a beautiful job taking a fresh look at what it means to walk with God in delight and rest. She's honest about the ways in which we sometimes struggle as we approach God's Word and provides insight into how to do so differently. You will come away with a renewed understanding of walking with God out of delight and rest. -Amy
Cara writes with warmth, clarity, and a deeply encouraging tone. Her voice is confident in Scripture without ever feeling heavy-handed; reading the book feels less like a lecture and more like being offered a comforting cup of tea. This book would benefit both new believers learning how to walk with the Lord and seasoned Christians whose devotional life has begun to feel dry or obligatory. Page after page contains memorable insights, and by the end, I came away with a deeper appreciation for holy leisure as a restful devotion—a wholehearted pursuit of Jesus that flows from delight rather than duty. - Cheryl
The “Pursuit of Holy Leisure” is packed with the divine wisdom of the word of God and peppered with illuminating quotes and real-life stories making it an interesting and delightful read. As a seasoned believer, reading this book exposed my own comfortable habits that have sometimes left me vaguely dissatisfied and thirsting for something more. - Laura

When we drop our kids off at school, we feel the need to commit them and their ways to the Lord. In the same way, would you join me in praying for this book? Please pray that it would go forth and do all that God intends, and reach every ready heart!
I'm praying like Moses...

Hail to the conquering graduates! Reader, Next week, my daughter graduates from high school. (How can it be?) I wanted to mark this milestone by leaving her and the other 2026 graduates with some timeless wisdom from God's Word. If you've heard teenagers talking lately, you might've thought you were hearing a foreign language. You weren't going crazy. It does sound like a foreign tongue sometimes, and it takes some context clues to figure out what they're saying. What you heard was likely...
This truth changes everything! Reader, This week, I taught at my church's women's Bible Study on 1 John, and we looked at 1 John 4:15. "Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God." The end of that verse reveals an often-overlooked doctrine. Inside those eight words are massive, life-changing, Bible-expanding, worship-producing truths. "God abides in him, and he in God." It just might be the most important doctrine you've never heard of. I hope you'll take...
Are you spiritually nearsighted? Reader, If you've ever struggled to enjoy reading God's Word, or if it feels like a box you check before moving on with your day, you might be spiritually nearsighted. That's when you can see what's right in front of you, but everything in the distance is blurry. It means we move through the motions of devotion without the right heart posture. We "lose sight" of 'why' we go to God's Word in the first place. Holy leisure helps us refocus our attention on who...
