Are you plodding in life? Here's hope for you...

"Plod. Don't Sprint. Be fruitful like a tree, not efficient like a machine."
-Douglas Wilson
Reader,
Plodding is a good word.
It refers to slow, steady, and deliberate effort, often with difficulty and lack of excitement. If plodding is the tortoise, sprinting is the hare.
Plodding, although effective, is not sexy. It’s like running a race. There’s excitement at the beginning and end, but thousands of unseen steps must happen in the middle, often without fanfare.
My first book, The Pursuit of Holy Leisure, is plodding along. Thousands of words (like steps) have been taken and then erased, rewritten, and crossed out the next day. It is a difficult, deliberate effort that I trust will reap good rewards—and progress is being made.
The book is about an area of our lives we don’t want to be a plod, but often is—our quiet times. Instead of seeing it as a checkbox we mark off each day, we long for leisure in our pursuit of God—a time of holy leisure.
Are your quiet times sometimes a plod? 🙋🏻♀️
We all struggle with it from time to time. But if that sounds like an area of your life you'd like to go from plodding to pursuing holy leisure, I hope you'll stay tuned!
So, as I plod along with my book, you’re probably plodding in some area of your life, too.
Take heart, friend! Don’t rely on your abilities (like the hare), but trust in the Lord and keep plodding along (like the tortoise).
“Let us run with endurance the race set before us” (Heb 12:1).
P.S. In my plodding, I’ve written three short posts that I hope will bless you today. I’ve also co-created a course for writers interested in building an online platform. Check them out below.
P.P.S. Are you plodding in your walk with the Lord? Hit reply and let me know how I can pray for you. It would be my honor to do so.
New 20 Verses Posts
A few weeks ago, I was invited to be a panelist at my daughters' high school chapel service. The issues young women are facing are real, but the Bible provides all the answers we need. Here's how you can encourage the young women in your life to cling to what is good, true, and beautiful.
"What if..." Those two words can spark all kinds of doubts and suspicions in our lives and cause us to question God's goodness. We all struggle with doubt, but consider that the questions you face today might go all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Consider better "what if" questions with the help of this post.
Productivity gurus will tell you, “Show me your morning, and I’ll show you who you are.” There’s wisdom in building a morning routine that sets up your day (and attitude) for success. But how do you get your soul ready for the day? Consider what God's Word says about how to start your day.

Parents of teens (or preteens), this is for you! Reader, This weekend, we celebrate the awesome Dads and Husbands among us. (Happy Father's Day to you if you're a father! We appreciate you!)I wrote this article for Desiring God this week, and it equally applies to Mothers and Fathers. Does any phrase more frequently capture the heart of Christ for his children than "he was moved with compassion"? It's the compassionate heart of a Father not to move away from his difficult children, but to...
Our Mother's Day Hope Reader, I know Mother's Day brings a host of emotions with it. You might be in a hard, unfulfilling season filled with insecurities, and you wonder... Can I be a good mom? Am I a good mom? Will they remember me as a good mom? But I've learned that as soon as you've figured out one season, it changes. The seasonal aspect of motherhood means that while some seasons are for planting or watering, others are for harvest. And there's hope for you and me in whatever season is...
